I'm Stephanie Sarro, founder and principal designer at Sarro Design. With a background in architecture and a passion for the arts, I blend technical expertise with creative intuition to design homes that are as functional as they are beautiful. My eye for detail, love of color, and deep understanding of spatial design help create timeless, personalized interiors that reflect each client’s unique story. I absolutely love what I do, and I can't wait to connect with you!
As a Coeur d’Alene interior designer, I’m often asked about my favorite design elements and why I return to them again and again. To me, the answer lies in a balance: materials that feel inviting and never go out of style.
Warm materials carry an emotional quality. They make a space feel approachable: cozy, and welcoming. Think of the way natural wood grain softens a room, or how a linen chair feels like it’s been waiting for you all day. Warm-toned metals like brass and bronze, earthy stones, and textured fabrics like wool or linen all fall into this category. They soften sharp edges and make rooms feel like they are meant to be lived in.
Timeless materials, on the other hand, are those that have stood the test of time. They are the classics of interior design that still feel relevant decades or even centuries later. Hardwood flooring, marble, leather, and neutral palettes are just a few examples. They anchor a home in a sense of history while allowing personal style to evolve around them.
When combined, warm and timeless design materials create a solid foundation for any home.

Over the years, a handful of materials have become my go-tos. These are the pieces I reach for when I want to create interiors that are equal parts organic, warm, and timeless.

Just as important as the materials I love are the ones I avoid.
For my design philosophy, I select materials that will still feel beautiful (and functional) many years down the line.

The design process isn’t just about the way something looks, it’s about how it serves the people who live there. The way I recommend materials always ties back to lifestyle: children, pets, entertaining habits, and even personal color preferences all matter. One of my favorite tools is helping clients discover their Color Season palette: Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall. It’s incredible how much this insight helps guide choices toward materials that feel natural for them.
Ultimately, design is art layered with practicality. Flooring, cabinets, counters, lighting… all the details have to work together!
The sheer number of options can overwhelm even the most design-savvy client. That’s why I rely on palette boards filled with stone, wood, tile, and hardware samples. For particularly tricky spaces, I’ll create renderings to show exactly how the elements of design will play together. Not everyone can visualize the end result, and that’s where my background in architecture and art comes in!
I see materials like brushstrokes on a canvas: they tell a story through color, proportion, and texture. Whether it’s exposed beams honoring a home’s structure or handwoven textiles softening a space, every choice is deliberate.

On a recent project, the Mica View Estates, we transformed the kitchen design with intentional materials. The space featured an incredible wall of windows overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene. To emphasize the view, I designed a full stone wall that stretched from countertop to ceiling, wrapping around each window. Quartz sills framed the glass, drawing the eye outdoors and bringing the natural beauty of the landscape directly into the kitchen. It was the perfect marriage of organic interior design and timeless architectural detail, proving exactly why design is so powerful!

At the heart of every design decision is emotion. I want people to feel warm, invited, and grounded when they walk into a home. The right materials don’t just decorate a room, they create a sense of belonging.
That, to me, is the power of warm and timeless interior design.
